Begginers Farming Guide Empty
PostSubject: Begginers Farming Guide   Begginers Farming Guide Icon_minitimeSat May 12, 2007 8:49 am

Here is a farming guide i hope you enjoy
Note: I did not make this guide so i dont take any credit from it.

.-'`'-.-'`'-.-'`'-.-'`'-.-'`'-..-'`'-.
.' '.
'. Getting Started .'
.' '.
'...-'`'-.-'`'-.-'`'-.-'`'-.-'`'-..-'`'-...'

The first thing you're going to need is seeds. The best place to get seeds
is in Draynor Village. You can do three things, steal from seed stalls,
pickpocket farmers, or buy from Olivia. Remember, if you steal from Olivia's
stalls she won't sell to you for 2 days. It's best to just buy seeds when
you're just starting out.

The only seeds you'll be able to plant when you start out are potato seeds so
buy all her potato seeds. The next thing you'll need, even though you can't
plant them yet, are marigolds. Buy a couple of those and you're set.

When you're starting out it's best to plant at a full farm. The closet one to
the seed shop is northwest of Draynor, right above the Cabbage Fields. This
isn't the best though. I advise you go to the farm north of Catherby.

Once there you're at the Catherby farm go straight the the farm shop. You
only need to buy a rake, seed dibber, spade, watering can, and some compost
right now. Go fill the watering can up at the house south of the farm. Now
you're ready to start planting. Before you can plant you'll have to clear
the fields.

Use the rake on all the allotments until they are clear of weeds. Take your
weeds and use them on the compost bin. If the compost bin fills up then close
it to let the weeds rot into compost. Use the compost you already bought
on large allotments and the flower patch to fertilize the soil. If you need
more compost just buy more from the shop.

Use the potato seeds on the two large fields, and the marigolds on the flower
patch. Water all your plants once and wait. Yes, wait. It'll take about 35
minutes for your potato plant to grow and half that time for the marigold to
grow. Meanwhile, continue watering your plants once the water dries up.

Once the marigold is grown to maturity, DON'T PICK IT! The marigold flowers
will protect your potatoes from disease and you won't have to water them
except once when they are seeds. Soon your potato plants will grow to
adulthood, at that point you can harvest them with a right click command.

When you get the hang of farming you should try farming multiple farms. Use
flowers to prevent diseases and eliminate watering and hop between farms,
planting and harvesting. Farming is a relatively simple skill once you
understand the basics.

.-'`'-.-'`'-.-'`'-.-'`'-.-'`'-..-'`'-.
.' '.
'. The Basics .'
.' '.
'...-'`'-.-'`'-.-'`'-.-'`'-.-'`'-..-'`'-...'

Here are the basics of farming. You should learn everything any starter
should know from the below topics. Read them carefully.

.-'`'-.-'`'-.-'`'-.-'`'-.-'`'-..-'`'-.
.' Growing Crops '.
'...-'`'-.-'`'-.-'`'-.-'`'-.-'`'-..-'`'-...'

There are four steps in planting crops. Preparation, planting, watering, and
harvesting. I'll go through these steps with you.

-------------------------
Step One: Preparation
-------------------------

The allotments for growing your plants are also the perfect place for weeds
to go. You need a rake to clear the fields. It's simple, use the rake on the
field and wait until all the weeds are gone. The weeds you rake will appear
in your inventory. If you put these in the compost bin they'll turn into
compost over time. Now that your field is clear it's time to fertilize the
dirt. Get a bucket of compost from the shop or compost bin and use it on the
allotment. Once the field is clear and fertilized it's time to plant your
seeds.

--------------------
Step Two: Planting
--------------------

Most seeds can be planted directly into the allotment using a seed dibber. If
this is the case then use the seeds on the plot with the dibber in your
inventory to plant them. However, tree seeds cannot be planted directly. You
must first plant them in a plantpot and then watered until they grow into a
sapling which can then be tranplanted into a tree plot. You can fill a pot
with soil from any farming plot if you have a gardening trowel. Once your
seeds are planted in the field you'll have to wait and water them until they
can be harvested.

----------------------
Step Three: Watering
----------------------

Plants won't grow unless you water them. You can get around this however by
hiring a gardener or planting a flower. To water your plants you need a
watering can. You can fill the watering can at any sink or fountain. A full
can will have 8 uses until you have to refill it. Use the watering can on
the plants and they will appear watered. Over time they will grow and the
water around them will dry up. You'll need to keep watering them until they
are fully grown. If you hired a gardener or have a fully grown flower planted
then you only need to water your plants once. They will continue to grow by
themselves without any assistance. This is useful if you're farm hopping.

------------------------
Step Four: Harvesting
------------------------

This is the final step in the farming cycle. Your plants are now fully grown
and are ready to be picked. To harvest your plants you're going to need a
spade. The farming plot should have a right click option 'harvest' when your
plants are fully grown. Click this option to start harvesting. When all the
crops are picked the plants will disappear and you'll have an empty field to
plant more crops in. You can use a sack or basket to store the crops you
harvested to help minimize the used inventory space.

.-'`'-.-'`'-.-'`'-.-'`'-.-'`'-..-'`'-.
.' '.
'. Compost .'
.' '.
'...-'`'-.-'`'-.-'`'-.-'`'-.-'`'-..-'`'-...'

Compost is essential to the farming process. You plants will be much more
prone to disease without it. You can either fill up a compost bin with weeds,
or other crops such as cabbage or onions to get 15 buckets worth of compost or
you can buy buckets of compost at farming shops. Compost takes about an hour
to rot in the bin, so it's best to have spare compost in a bank or to be near
a farming shop incase your compost bin runs out. When you take a bucket of
compost from the bin you gain 4.5 farming exp. When you use the compost on a
plot you gain 18 farming exp. Also, there is a better compost, this compost
is called super compost.

.-'`'-.-'`'-.-'`'-.-'`'-.-'`'-..-'`'-.
.' '.
'. Disease .'
.' '.
'...-'`'-.-'`'-.-'`'-.-'`'-.-'`'-..-'`'-...'

Disease is a major problem that will stop your plants from growing and will
even kill them. In this section you will learn how to prevent and treat your
crop's diseases.

.-'`'-.-'`'-.-'`'-.-'`'-.-'`'-..-'`'-.
.' '.
'. Tools .'
.' '.
'...-'`'-.-'`'-.-'`'-.-'`'-.-'`'-..-'`'-...'

All tools can be bought from a farming shop. There is a farming shop at the
farm above Catherby. Here's a description of what they all do.

Rake - Used to clear fields of weeds.

Seed Dibber - For planting seeds with.

Watering Can - You water plants with this. You can use a watering can 8 times
before they need refilled.

Spade - Used to harvest or dig up dead crops.

Secatuers - Cut leaves off diseased bushes or trees.

Gardening Trowel - Transport soil from a field to a plantpot.

Compost - Used to fertilize your soil.

Sack - Store 10 vegetables in it.

Basket - Store 5 vegetables in it.

Plantpot - Grow saplings in it until they can be transplanted.

Thank you for reading this guide and i take no credit for this guide because i did not make it.
